Day off

It’s a day off… yes! It feels a little funny having a day off on a Monday, but I’ve taken the opportunity to wake up earlier than I usually do on my day off—9 AM!
In the afternoon I went to the tiny mall to post my art exhibit advertisements in friends’ stalls. They were all very helpful and sweet to allow me to post the posters. The exhibit opens in a week and I’ve invested in the printing of the advertisements, crossing my fingers that it’ll be worth it.
Afterwards I went to visit a friend, at the request of his mother. He’s been having a rough time. He is someone we always knew as a dare-devil and a risk-taker, but this time—these last two times—were worse than ever. Two automobile accidents. The last one killed a friend of his. Since I haven’t seen him since returning from Sri Lanka, I decided to pop by their house. He doesn’t go out much anymore, and that’s understandable. He even refused to celebrate his own birthday yesterday. I hope for his sake that he will be able to heal from the trauma and not blame himself too much.
He decided to go bowling tonight, since he’s with a league and they were supposed to be practicing at the alley. We went to play and his mom thought he scored well because I brought good luck. As if! Really, it was just good to see him smiling again. Later we rented a movie and ordered pizza.
I received good news via SMS that I got the part I’d auditioned for—Liat in the musical “South Pacific”. I had wanted to do one more play before leaving Kampala. Also I was pleased with this role because the character is a main character but doesn’t speak English, so speaking and/or singing is minimal.
The weather was crazy today—raining on and off. Still, it leaves the evening air cooler than usual.
