South Pacific!

I’ve been in rehearsals for the musical “South Pacific” again. Didn’t realize that my first scene comes on way later, over an hour into the show! So I bring books and a diary…maybe this way it won’t feel like time wasted. I’ve never seen the show in its entirety before, so at least it’s not as boring as it will be to me a week from now!
One of our directors is a stand-in for the main director of the play. He’s been an awesome instructor. He’s been showing us how to really get the into the “feelings” our characters. I play one of the characters in the romance story, but actor who plays my love interest is a bit shy. He told me today he hadn’t really “gotten into his character” yet. We’re supposed to do all these romantic scenes where I’m oh-so-enthralled and mesmerized with him… but I find that I’m struggling a bit to come across naturally when he’s a little uptight. Apparently he’s very young, and I assume more inexperienced in these things… but today someone mentioned that maybe his shyness will come across on stage as being charming. I’m not so sure. I mean, he’s supposed to be a Lieutenant in the US army!
Well, we’ll see on opening night (the 8th) what comes out of all this.
