Light House Club hijinks

I arrived at the Light House Club (see previous posts for more on our youth club) and I was dutifully informed that after setting up our instruments and equipment and playing the songs for the young people with the band, I was also supposed to be a part of the skit team for the evening! You can imagine my surprise since, for starters, I’d never performed the particular skit that was scheduled. Ever! There was no escaping though. There was a crowd of new people attending the club this time, and the skits our team perform have become quite the popular segment of the evening.

The main point of the skit I was to participate in is that in order to defeat your “enemy” (or life’s trials, hardships, temptations and setbacks) one must have the proper “weapons” so-to-speak. Some of these “weapons” are: the Word of God, unity with your fellow man, prophecy (hearing from God personally) among others.

In this particular skit, a small troop of soldiers discover that rusty old weapons won’t really have much effect, and that you have to sharpen them—Hone them and practice with them so that when you’re faced with an “enemy” you’re ready to fight it off. Similarly you need to hone your spiritual gifts so you are better able to use them when faced with difficulties in life.

I decided it would be better to leave all the real acting to my brother David, and to my friend Ralph. Also, this time we were the only actors. Coincidently, we are the band also :-o . After playing music for about an hour we slipped backstage to pray before beginning the skit. Not wanting to appear completely unprepared, I looked around for things we could use for costumes. My brother David pointed out the three old rags that I use to wrap my assorted drum parts in, and we proceed to put these on our heads. I still have no idea why. One of life’s great mysteries, no doubt.

I’m sure there have been greater interpretations and more talent-filled moments in the history of drama but our skit was a hit! We couldn’t keep from laughing during some parts and the crowd just roared. It was only the Lord, I can assure you. I mentioned in an earlier post that we were on a campaign to bring new people to the club. Well tonight things had definitely picked up—there were about ten newcomers, plus the usual crowd. Good, good.
