QE National Park - day 3

It’s been…how would I describe it? Possibly the most perfect weekend of my life! I feel so blessed and so undeserving. Upon waking, I looked out of my tent to see the warthogs gathering around the campfire coals. Dawn mist gathers over the lake, and there’s other wild animal sounds coming from the distance.
We took an early-morning game drive and spotted lots of water-buck, Uganda cobs, and fish-eagles. We drove the jeep out into an open field and waited with our binoculars for anything that might pass. We talked about the possibility of lions jumping out from a nearby bush, and I decided it would be a good idea to practice scrambling back into the jeep from off the roof as fast as I possibly could. In the end I figured I’d probably just freeze with fear at the sight of lion teeth, while my friend would be the one making the quick getaway.
Later we drove to the airstrip. Mongoose and more warthog were the nearest wildlife, but there was still that feeling of the possibility of more ferocious creatures being about. Like the huge hippo we saw back at camp who was making his way towards the water.
The sight from the airstrip was the best we’d seen yet. Lake George glistened with a thousand diamonds as the sun shone on the horizon. We thought of our third friend who’d been unable to come with us on this trip, and how much he was missing! This must be the best way to pass a lazy weekend, EVER!
