QE National Park - final

Well, I suppose nothing is perfect. Had a miserable sleep because after stargazing we fell asleep by the fire, complete with open water bottle on our mattress. Of course, it fell over. Of course, it soaked everything. The entire mattress was almost swimming, so we had no choice but to crawl back into the tent without the comfort of anything between our backs and the rocky ground. It was so painful, I still have bruises. We’d brought an air mattress as a backup, but irony of ironies, we’d forgotten the pump. (And he thought he could blow it up with his mouth!)
Can’t believe we’re leaving today to head back to the city. I have never had a more perfect, picturesque experience. (With the exception of my visit to the Northern Ik tribes. Nothing beats that view from the mountain range!) We left the campsite around 9am, and the Lord blessed us with yet another wonderful experience on the drive out. We saw two more lions, and these weren’t just any lions, they were the tree-climbing kind which are said to be extremely rare! We’d actually skipped the hour-long drive to Ishasha to see these “star attraction” tree-climbing lions. But here we were treated to an excellent look at them, just as we were leaving. How cool is that?
I really wanted to take some “volcanic bombs” from the craters with me, but we’d forgotten to pick them up yesterday. I think they’d have made an excellent centerpiece for our living room!
We took a different route home through beautiful Fort Portal, home of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains. We flew past a sigh that “Humps Ahead”. As it turned out, the “humps” when on for another hour of our journey. Road repairs were still in progress, although we’d been informed that the road construction was finished! So there we went, driving slowly and painfully for the next hour over hump after hump. I passed the time singing aloud all of the corniest songs I know from all the musicals I’d ever watched as a kid, as well as from our recent theater plays, tormenting my friend with the sound of my flu-infected voice.
Then, home-sweet-home. Finally.
And now, back to work! Thank God I love mine!
