The Living Words
I went out witnessing with fellow Home-member Jere today. Our first stop was the house of a woman who had called our local Activated desk to order books. The Activated desk had then forwarded her address to our Home. We drove to a not-so-nice area of town and after finding her address on a dirt street practically in the middle of nowhere, we were shown into her humble little house.
As we sat there with this lady we found out that her husband is a construction worker who stays out all week and she’d stay alone at home with her 8-year-old son. At this point I got a little worried because it could look strange to her neighbors that two guys were in the house alone with her. What’s more, I thought, if this reached her husband it could mean trouble. Well, she seemed pretty much okay, so I just pushed the thought aside.
She was telling us about her sister who had subscribed to the Activated magazine and when her sisters’ subscription had ended she decided she’d subscribe to the mag as well as she had liked it so much. Then since the magazine comes only once a month, and she still couldn’t get enough, she decided to order some of the Activated book series as well. We asked if she attended any particular church and she said that there was something missing in church, something that the magazine message could fill far better. We were able to explain that what really matters is each persons personal connection with God and not church buildings or some show of “I’m holier than thou” spirituality. We continued talking about the Word and a few different articles in the magazine. Then she said something that really made my day. She said: “There’s something about the articles written by David Berg. I don’t know what it is but they seem to speak directly to me.” We then explained to her just who David Berg was and how he was the founder of our group.
In conclusion: I guess I sometimes forget how Dad’s (David Bergs’) writings really moved people and continue to speak to them today. All because they were Words directly from God! The Lord’s sheep hear his voice and they do follow after them!
