Daily prayer

Joni writes: I’ve been learning so much about prayer lately. In the Family we have a required half-hour of daily prayer vigil. One problem I’ve encountered is a simple lack of focus on my part. I find my mind wandering so easily when trying to pray sometimes, which frustrates me, and I feel that I’m not really making the best use of the time. I guess it’s good in a way because it makes me with all my heart want to change that about myself; When I sit down to pray and concentrate solely on that, well, then I’m able to really focus. It’s when I decide to have some prayer vigil while I’m folding laundry, exercising etc. that is when I have a hard time concentrating.
I’m challenged to change this and to train my mind better. I know my prayers aren’t as effective if they’re just “half there.†Also, reading what the Word has to say about prayer and what the Lord has told us in prophecy regarding its power never fails to make me more determined to be consistent with this part of my life. Here are a couple of quotations I found that I think are awesome:
…in spite of prayer being the absolute most efficient and productive activity in the world, there are very few who fully embrace the calling and make the most of it. There are so few who are faithful with their prayer vigils. There are so few who labor in desperate prayer.
There is so much more you can do through prayer than by any other means available to you.
