Radioactive Dancers

Today we’re cramming in dance rehearsals all day for an upcoming show on Saturday night. Our dance troupe “The Radioactive Dancers” have been performing together for some years now.
It started off with the four girls who put together simple routines to back up the local artists we produced at RadioActive’s Studios. But now we’ve grown to be a renowned dance group here in Kampala—the only foreign dance group in the country. It means we get regular gigs, the proceeds of which go to help our charity projects, or keep things at the mission center running. During the last couple of years we’ve focused on Indian traditional dancing with a modern twist, with dance routines that resemble flamboyant Bollywood numbers, complete with appropriate costumes and make-up.
Our costumes are home-made of course, hand-sewn by one of the girls. Two of the dancers are our main choreographers, and they follow either popular dance routines from the Indian movies or incorporate their own choreography. We often perform for charity functions, and the upcoming one is a variety concert which will include many other performers who are also giving their time and talents to raise funds for charity. Our dance group is like any other, in that we have our share of squabbles, too. We’re all headstrong people, but with my big mouth, I’m often the one starting up conflicts. I feel stupid afterwards, and it’s a waste of time, but no team is exempt from the little glitches in the machinery.
Not to excuse my behavior, of course, but today I felt particularly unfocused. Every second in the dance routine is a different step, you know, and it was so much brain overload! My thoughts were preoccupied with the stress of other issues I’ve been dealing with this week, but I took some time out during our lunch break to get some extra personal prayer time…and sleep. Maybe that helped, as I’ve been sick the last few days.
Well, we’re looking forward to the show. The best thing is feeling the exciting rush. Here’s some pix of the team.
