Weekly Bible study

I’ve had the privilege of helping out teach the weekly Bible classes at a pub downtown where we have a group of about 12 people come every Wednesday. I didn’t know it could be so much fun, and I’ve been a bit out of practice with this kind of outreach. When Brian, who usually teaches with Kathleen, took off to Tanzania last week, I had no choice but to jump in and fill the need. Well, it felt more like I was filling my own need. I don’t know how to explain it, I suppose it’s the concept of pouring out and being filled up at the same time. It was so refreshing to talk to these spiritually hungry people who sat there, taking in everything that was being said.
I was a bit reluctant at the beginning. I’d thought Kathleen would take charge in teaching the class. But when she handed me the teachers’ notes at the start of the hour, I had to shoot up a prayer and lay aside my pride. I’m glad for it. There’s nothing like the feeling of knowing that you helped someone spiritually today. Being there, being willing to be used by the Lord in whatever capacity and reaching out to the “little” people, the “nobodys”, but those who are truly receptive…it was such a good experience for me.
I hope I can join the classes again next week.
