Media = reality? Or the other way around?

Today I had the surprise of my life…I called a friend to find out what’s up, and he goes, “Nyx, You’re leaving Uganda??? I read about it in the newspapers!”
Hmmm…that’s what I get for having friends in the media. I sent an email to a group of people, stating my future leave (as a personal note), and one woman goes and decides to print it for the entire country to know. (I was trying to keep it quiet till just before I leave, which is like three weeks away).
Reminds me of a friend I was chatting with the other day who told me about a friend of hers who was often in the press. One day, the rumor mill of the media decides to go and print the headlines: “Is She Pregnant?” —Because of the slight weight gain. My friend calls up her friend and says, “How come you didn’t tell me you were pregnant?” This lady was like, “Listen, I didn’t even know I was either! I took a test after seeing my picture in the paper and then only discovered afterwards that I was indeed pregnant!”
Oh well. I guess I’ll really have to go and board that plane, then.
