Wedding!

The weddings in Nairobi were movie-perfect, except they were the real thing! The first one on Saturday was the marriage of a friend I’d known since childhood, and the next day was a twin-wedding! (With one of the brides being sister to the groom of the day before.)
First though, we had to endure a loooooooong bus ride on the bumpy road from Uganda to Kenya. Just when I thought my ass would fall off, we’d parked in the dingy side of town. Catching a taxi to the Family Home, Nairobi seemed like New York in comparison to my beloved Kampala.
The weekend was worth it, and as the bride and groom met up at the aisle to exchange vows in the serenity of the garden with their immediate families and friends in attendance, it was a moment to remember. I was busy behind the camera the entire time, but their wedding vows apparently brought tears to a few. I could barely believe everything had been donated! It was all so beautiful! The morning had been spent in full preparation, with the groom himself stringing the roses along the walkway. I was busy fussing with the flower girls’ hair. Dolling up like this is every little girl’s dream, isn’t it? The bride herself seemed to have stepped out of a magazine.
Everything seemed like magic. The theme colors, white and yellow, gave the garden the prefect hues. The ceremony was simple, but beautiful.
I just felt a whole lot of peace. This trip to Nairobi was, for me, something else. The purpose had been to attend the weddings, of course. But more than that, the Lord had allowed me to come here to make amends with my past. There were people in attendance at the wedding whom I’d had a past history with, and that needed to be settled.
More of those details in my next blog Oh yeah, and the story of the twin wedding too.
