Cervantino Festival (photos!)

Vas writes: Well first of all, let’s try and catch up on the last month. We had what we called a teen camp. It was called “the BLAST” (Battle Lords Attacking Satans’ Territory). It was quite the event, with a good turn out. Around 250 people showed up for the four day event. The plan was to fill up with the Word (God’s Word), and then after the four days go to the “battlefield”: a yearly festival in Guanajuato in the center of Mexico, called “The Cervantino Festival”.

The Family has gone to this event for the last three years and when I was a lot younger (about 15 years ago) I used to go there. It’s a very popular festival amongst the youth but sadly they get very disillusioned due to the fact that they toke up alot and overdose or drink too much. Subtance abuse is rampant, so we consider this the front of the battle and go there to offer a solution to their loneliness and heartbreak: Jesus.
The four day camp was filled with classes on a variety of subjects such as witnessing, how to make the most of the hardships that come our way, dedication to God, seeing the good in less than perfect circumstances and more.
Also, about seven local bands showed up including ours (Creature). They were quite good. I thoroughly enjoyed Stevie’s and also Tony’s band. The Balie guys were great as well, and all the classes were great. I cried at one of them when I was relating a recent experience where God used a serious trial to teach me some needed lessons. Godfrey (another Creature band member) was helping me explain myself as I’m not so good at speaking clearly and he started crying too. It had been awhile since I cried and it felt good. It also felt good to see the things happening in my life clear enough to cry and explain why.

Well, we went to the festival after that and since a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s some photos to tide you over until my next blog entry, when I’ll tell you about my trip to Germany and a bit about how I got there. My wife already wrote a bit about the first leg of the journey (see her blog w/the pic in the bus station). A little crazy, but fun. The way down was crazier, but that’s another story…
