Christmas shopping

Joy to the World -Christmas has come,
The tree is missing a star
The dancers need costumes
The kids sound off tune
At least the band can sing
La la la, Fra la la
Well, you get the picture—it’s the run up to Christmas and suddenly it seems that there is so much more to do than people to do them. Today we embarked on a family adventure to Chickpet market (yup, that’s the real name) to buy some costume material for the kid’s performing team. It should really have been done ages ago, but Sara had gone on the road for a week… so now was the time.
Chickpet is not the kind of market where you put your bags in the deposit locker and plonk the baby in the shopping cart. No sir! It’s about an hour away in a more run down part of town, but you could probably find just about anything there, and it seems half the population can be found there as well! We had some rather vague directions (i.e. when you go down that road, then you will find a cow, walk straight past the second one, you will see a building on the left—Don’t go there! Then there will a number of left turns, take any which one. Then, ask for directions), etc. etc.
Finally somebody directed us to a stuffed animal shop where up a couple flights of stairs, down the dark hallway we finally found what we were looking for. Some white furry material! YAY! We had about 10 people tell us “it is not to be found in all of Bangalore.” Well, thank the Lord we found it, now you guys can pray we find a tailor willing to start tailoring now!
One of the songs the kids are dancing to is Con Mi Burrito Sabanero sung by none other than Joni herself and it’s definitely the kid’s favourite. It took me a while to convince them that looking at each other for partner dances is not corny! Ha! But now they have it down pretty good. I’m so happy we were also able to involve a lot of kids from other smaller Family homes that didn’t have a team to dance with.
