Teaching guitar

Joni writes: Vas and I have been starting to teach Rowen and Chad to play guitar, and it’s been fun! They’re really learning and enjoying it…. now. When we first started it was difficult to get them to practice; it was too “boring.” But I think that kids, just like us adults, like it when somebody makes them do something that they deep inside really want to do or learn but need some prodding—hmmm, like exercise, eating less, learning a new skill, etc. Our goal is to practice 10 minutes a day, but it’s really turned out to be about two or three times a week. I’d like to make it more consistent but I’m so encouraged because even with the little practice we’ve had with them they really are learning fast. They can play chords C, G, D, A and Em. I taught them a little song the other day using three of those chords. I’m SO proud of them and having so much fun teaching them. They are proud of themselves too and feel very accomplished.
