Goa trip (part 1)

The whole gang has returned from an 8 day trip to Goa… a beautiful former Portuguese colony (now its own state) on the West Indian coast. It’s always such a special blessing from the Lord when we are able to get away for awhile and before I get into describing it I just want to thank Him for it!
The trip there: We piled into the car at an hour a little too early for our liking and headed to Goa in a convoy of two trusty vehicles. We usually take a shorter route, but since the roads were extremely bad for part of that route we had to take a detour through a place called Mangalore. If you’ve been to India, you can imagine how desperately we were praying for protection on the road there with thick traffic mainly comprised of truck drivers (who probably just recently paid a couple hundred rupee bribe for a drivers’ license, if even that!) A number of times we had to completely swerve off our lane onto the side of the road in the middle of the highway to avoid a head-on collision! A highlight was giving tracts to some other travellers we met at a ‘full veg restaurant’ we had stopped at for lunch. (I learned a good lesson here… Never… NEVER order anything but South Indian food at a South Indian restaurant!) Well we made it safely there around 10 o’clock at night with a mixed feeling of relief/sweat/joy/dirt/hunger etc. Thank you RUTH AND ZENA for letting us crash out at your place–you were our angels!
Will tell you more about the actual vacation in the next post. I’m off to bed, I’m so tired. Probably because I’ve been squealing all day trying to sing again!
