Kids camp

It’s Saturday, and the week has gone by with me being completely oblivious to time, days, or dates of the week.
I’ve just returned from Kids Camp, you see, and wow… I never knew such things could be so exhausting! It actually brought me back to my own remarkable childhood in The Family, the days when communal living was more aptly called “Combo Living”–up to 100 people under one roof sometimes, and what fun it was for us kids to have so many friends to live with every single day!
It must have been more stressful for our teachers, though, and I realize that only now, after four days of hearing nothing but the yackity-yakking of 20-something children, all camped out in the country side. I told you in my last blog that I’d been made part of the team, responsible for games… but later I find out they were recruiting me to help with the mini-plays (which we illustrated the classes with) as well.
The focus of this year’s Kids Camp was “Spirit Treasures,” and every day the kids learned about various gifts of the Spirit that the Lord has for us–Love and Unity, for example. It was wonderful to see them having so much fun with new friends, and partaking of these “Spiritual Treasures”. We’re so privileged to be serving the Lord and having access to His Word. I have prayed that my little brothers and sisters would be able to somehow have the opportunity to partake of the beautiful heritage I’d been given as a child and this camp was the answered prayer.
It’s amusing and endearing to see a bunch of kids get together, form new friendships (we told them to make an effort to include everyone, and not just stick to exclusive cliques) let go of their shyness, and get excited about prayer and learning about God.
Cheers to the handful of people who put the camp together and organized everything on short notice. The awesome resort that was donated for our use was also a miracle, as the beautiful pool it had looked like a wonderful lagoon in the middle of the rainforest. It did rain on and off, but the sun came out long enough for us to enjoy hiking and swimming every day. Thank God there were no casualties–oh, except for my friend Suzy who also came to help with the camp. On the second day she decided to take a nose dive in the shallow end of the pool, and surfaced with a bloody face. (Ok, it wasn’t that bad.)
More stories and pix coming later… for now, I’m off to bed to enjoy the… silence.
