the Da Vinci Code

So, I went to see The Da Vinci Code the other night. Seemed I was the only person in the world who hadn’t yet read the book, and the three other friends I was with were glad for that because they wanted another opinion on the film from someone who had no clue what the story line was. In some of the major cinemas here, the film has been banned. My guess is because the country is predominantly Catholic.

An hour before taking off to the theater, I said to my younger sister, who’d seen it before, “So, without giving away the punchline, what’s the basic plot of the film?” (Yeah, I’ve been too busy these days to catch up with what’s what in Hollywood these days….) And she says to me, “Oh well, you know…I always suspected it was the girl! And it was!” Argh! I could have wrung her for that. And then someone else at the table goes, “Oh yeah, and I knew it was the apple–I mean, it just had to be!”

So there, my suspense was all ruined.

What can I say… I honestly loved the film, not so much for the controversy as much as the detective stuff. And the thing that brought everything together was Tom Hank’s line at the end where he says it’s all about “what you believe”. (By the way, is that part in the original novel?) It made me think about the lifestyle I’ve chosen–the God I’ve chosen to serve; the Jesus I have dedicated my life to. At the end of the day, His divinity is never something I question, because of my EXPERIENCE with Him. I know His power to be true, therefore, for me, He is the Alpha and Omega–beginning, and end of story.

I know, I’ve had critics, athiests, agnostics question my faith to my face, and some of them would love a heated debate. I always tell them I have no arguments…I have no “theories”. I have FACTS on how my life is. I have faith in something substantial which has always been there for me through the highs and the lows. I have a million true life stories to tell about how this Jesus came through for me every single time, and that’s why I love Him. …And then I just share the stories.

I have reason to believe that Jesus went through every human feeling we have, so He could better understand us–the details of those particular feelings and who He shared them with are beside the point. His was a life of love that changed lives and renewed spirits, and those who serve Him in Spirit and in Truth can testify to His authenticity in their hearts.

“…What say you of this Jesus?”

Oh I’m sorry, I originally wrote this post a couple of months ago–didn’t realize the film is still just coming out in some places. Eh heh. Oops! Nah, I didn’t give everything away…did I?
