Christmas Questions (part 2)

Vas: Here’s a funny story about a Christmas from way back. This happened when a team of us young people were on a faith trip. I explained in a previous post what a faith trip is. Actually Joni was there too, this was way before we were married but we were there on the same faith trip and one night we found ourselves without a place to stay. It was Christmas time and on this particular faith trip we were doing a lot of caroling, spreading Christmas cheer and witnessing. It was getting very late and we got the idea to dress up like Mary, Joseph and the shepherds and go to a hotel and ask them if they had room at the inn or even the stable (metaphorically speaking of course.) Joni and I ended up being Mary and Joseph (and who knew that a whole 7 years later we would end up getting married?) Anyway, I don’t have the best memory so I’m gonna step out on a limb and say I think it worked, but I know it made quite the splash and it’s really quite radical to think that we in the Family do really live a lot like Jesus and his disciples did or in this case Mary and Joseph did in Bible times, proving that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. One thing I do remember is that we definitely slept comfortably that night and it was definitely not on the streets.

Actually after several attempts we ended up paying for a room. But the point was made both to us and the people that we were asking for a room. It helped us to have just a tiny bit more understanding of the first Christmas and what it was like for Mary and Joseph looking for a place to sleep on Christmas Eve. I am sure that it was even a bigger test for them than it was for us. She was just about to give birth — what a testimony to their faith - they trusted God in spite of everything. God executed his perfect plan as a result.

Hi Terence! So good to hear from you! I have some great memories of our road trips–especially to Can Cun. Love to your family.
