Christmas disco

Joni: Ok, yes, so I was going to tell you about why my room looks like a disco at night. Well, one day I come in the room and Chad is…well I forget exactly what he was doing (yes, you lose brain cells when you’re pregnant) but I remember thinking it looked a bit like he was messing up the room. “Hey, um, Chad, what’s going on?” “Mom, we’ve gotta decorate, it’s Christmas time!” “Oh yes! That would be so fun! But we don’t have any Christmas decorations…let’s make a manger scene!” And all the kids joined in with “Yeah, we’ve gotta decorate!” It was so sweet to see them like this and I felt bad that I didn’t have any decorations. So we tried making a manger scene out of cardboard (I didn’t give much thought to how to make one, I just felt like I couldn’t let them down and there was only a little time left before bed) but our efforts weren’t really working out. We tried to figure out how to get it to stand up, then it wasn’t standing up straight and it was getting frustrating.
Finally we got the idea that for our next family day we could go down town and ask some of the many stalls selling Christmas decorations if they had any they could give to us, explaining that we are missionaries and showing them some pictures of our outreach activities. Oh, we had such a fun day! Someone gave us a manger scene, others gave us lights, some stockings, and then the kids wanted a mini Christmas tree. I felt ok about asking for a real mini one but the kids pointed one out to me and said “that looks like a good size” (it was a little larger than mini.) I was like “really….,” but I thought that I may as well try. The dear girl that owned the stall was so sweet and said “sure, I’ll give you one.” Then some other people gave some decorations for it etc. It was so exciting for the kids to set it all up. A lotta lights went up and for that reason my room looks like a disco but the kids love going to sleep watching the blinking lights and it sure does look Christmassy!
