Neighbors

This is just a silly story on how it really is worthwhile to face life with a positive attitude. A while back the electricity for our whole neighborhood went out. One of our couples decided to take a walk, being that their computer work was now halted. At the door they ran into our fuming neighbors.

“It’s horrible! All our afternoon plans are ruined!” Our neighbors were on the warpath against the electric company and its old equipment, the bumpy roads and everything in sight… that is until they noticed our couple’s tennis shoes and sweat pants. “What are you doing?” they asked.

“We thought we’d take advantage of the lovely afternoon and go on a walk, since we can’t really do anything else at the moment.”

“Oh… Well I suppose that’s why we moved in next to missionaries. We’re all in the same situation, but we’re complaining and you’re enjoying it!” We all laughed and then forgot about the incident until yesterday when, again, our neighborhood found itself without electricity. I was in a bit of a frenzy to get the phone working again, when I heard someone at the door.

“It’s your neighbors! We came to see what you’re up to!” I opened the gate to 3 happy grins… and the dog! They were just the cutest little family out on an afternoon stroll. “We learnt from you and are taking advantage of this lovely afternoon to come visit you, since nobody has electricity.” We invited them in and talked as the sun went down while the children chased the dog, and we made plans to start up Bible lessons. Actually we’re going to visit them tonight!

So yeah, even when you think nobody is watching… “…No man is an island, entire of itself…any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”
