Florecita's Archive

After many years of doing office-type missionary work, Florecita is testing her hand as a field missionary. She is currently the counselor of a group of teenagers, does outreach, restaurant singing… and anything that is needed to help her center and its projects keep momentum. She is also an aficionado of photography and hopes that with it she can show the world a little more of The Family International, its projects, and the wonderful people in it. More about Florecita

Questions About… Christmas! (part 1)

December 18th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

What does Christmas mean to you? The frills of Christmas lost their appeal after a few really hectic seasons, so I decided I’d try to focus on love and smiles. So now I guess it means to me a time to maximize on the amount of love you can give. I like Christmases that are [...]

Christmas quandaries

December 4th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

One of the odd things about our missionary homes is that we end up with a total mish-mash of cultural backgrounds, generations, social backgrounds and opinions living under one same roof. They say variety is the spice of life, and one of the spiciest times is during traditional holidays because everyone has their own traditional [...]

Success and failure

November 28th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

I read once in an Ikea postcard: “The only time you don’t make mistakes is when you’re sleeping”. I thought that was funny because what if you’re sleeping with the wrong person? Now that is a classic mistake. Still, it’s good to remember that every mistake brings you one step closer to success. In looking [...]

Christmas miracles

November 25th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

How is it possible that Christmas is already here? Christmas is something I am never prepared for. Last week was total freak-out week in order to be ready for our first show at a local mall, which thank God came out just swimmingly in spite of the ups and downs. I admit, at the time [...]

BLAST and updates

November 13th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

What did one frog say to another frog? “Time is sure fun when you’re having flies.” Here’s how October went down: 4 attendees and 3 staff members from our home had a blast at the BLAST camp (har har, overused pun) from the 9th till the 14th of October. To those of you who prayed [...]

Orphanage show

October 12th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

Our intrepid singing team was invited to visit one of the biggest orphanages in Cuernavaca to help distribute some sponsored books for the kids there. Of course we said “YESSS!!!!” because we love orphans, but also because we have a knack for getting ourselves into hopelessly embarrassing situations. We even offered to sing “the happiness [...]

Parlor tricks

October 9th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

The other day I was making my rounds through what seemed like the new-age district of Cuernavaca. Everyone I met believed in magic teas and ancient religions—well, ironically, everyone except for the guy who owned the only esoteric items shop in the area. Later I met two brothers, elder men from a reputable family, and [...]

The Lord sees… He knows

October 1st, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

Every 16th of September Mexico celebrates it’s “grito de independencia”, and wanting to cash in on some fun after restaurant-singing, we went to the local square to eat some elote (corn) and check out the festivities. Apparently in little towns like ours people start firing live ammo as the evening progresses… so we figured we’d [...]

Letting go

September 26th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

Losing control was one of those things I avoided assiduously in life; every day was planned and maximized, every move calculated and organized. For 7 years I worked on a specific “cyber-missionary” type of ministry and everything I did was directly related to computers and phones. It was a good, fulfilling life. But out of [...]

Wouldn’t trade it for the world!

September 17th, 2006 | By Flo living in Mexico | More from Flo

My mom (who is a missionary in Chile) recently sent me the following article, which I absolutely loved. I’ve highlighted in bold the ones I identify with, which are quite a few. Any ring a bell to you? (And by the way, football IS played with a round, spotted ball, no matter what you may [...]
