Five questions about… #3

December 31st, 2006 | By Nyx living in Philippines | More from Nyx

What are you most hoping to accomplish this Christmas season? I have just finished a huge event for 100 terminally-ill kids. It was our biggest party of the year. I work with kids with cancer, so to close the year that we have all been together, we had an awesome party in a football field, [...]

Five questions about… #2

What would you say was your most unusual place to have Christmas? Any interesting, weird or wonderful Christmas customs in your current field? I wouldn’t say “unusual”, but I found that the Decembers I spent in Uganda were different because they were so ‘quiet’, as compared to my home-country. In Kampala, everyone goes back to [...]

Five questions about… #1

What does Christmas mean to you? I’m pretty fanatical about it being Jesus’ birthday, and a time to commemorate that. Of course, that doesn’t rule out the abundance of parties and time spent with friends and family–family, on the actual Christmas eve and Christmas Day…and parties with friends every other night (or day) of the [...]

Christmas busy

November 30th, 2006 | By Nyx living in Philippines | More from Nyx

Well… I knew that as soon as I got over the flu (which lasted four weeks… argh!) that things would be nonstop once again. And they are! This is the busy season, after all, but I find it particularly hard to NOT thrive on work. It’s one of the things I need to work on—to [...]

Delinquent blogger

So… Justin’s been to 14 countries, eh? I haven’t been to nearly that many, but it’s true that in The Family you get the best place to experience life lived to the fullest… at any rate, alot of training for your future, whatever that may be. I have been a bad, delinquent blogger, but I [...]

The theater

October 28th, 2006 | By Nyx living in Philippines | More from Nyx

Just got back from a theater play which we were able to take 32 kids with cancer and their parents to. Fun, fun! As a lover of the arts, I’m always looking out for where the next exhibition or play might be staged, and I’ve been trying to make an effort to raise the kids’ [...]

Christmas prep

October 24th, 2006 | By Nyx living in Philippines | More from Nyx

Christmas….ah yeah, it’s almost here…I told you before how in the Philippines, every one of the “ber” months is the season. Seems the festivities and decor aren’t as much this year tho….could be a result of the typhoon. I’m starting up practice with the kids, to put together some routines and carols for when we [...]

Typhoon aftermath

October 10th, 2006 | By Nyx living in Philippines | More from Nyx

We were lucky to get our power back before the rest of the world…some of my friends say its been five days after typhoon Xangsane and still nothing. So life around here is back to normal. Except my Internet connection goes on and off, so the other day when it disappeared, I tried to get [...]

Typhoon updates

October 4th, 2006 | By Nyx living in Philippines | More from Nyx

We got our power back within 48 hours, but for some of the city, it’s been five days. I stood in line at the grocery mart with just two kilos of chicken to purchase for dinner and waited a whole 45 minutes. Telephone calls from friends came in saying some homes had been flooded and [...]

Typhoon days

October 2nd, 2006 | By Nyx living in Philippines | More from Nyx

So my country just took a nasty hit–from the worst typhoon to ever come crashing on us in 11 years! Since I don’t have electricity I won’t be blogging much for the next few days. Our power is out and I’m just rushing to write this in a cafe as I do some shopping for [...]
