I was getting ready to travel to Coimbatore, and this time had booked a flight since my baby is still quite small and I didn’t think it wise to put him on the rickety bus up. People were also known to get bug bites – so, yes we were definitely not going that way. Since I have had the baby (a month and a half now) I haven’t had much of a chance to go out and meet people and I was really looking forward to meeting someone special. I prayed with Vin that I would meet someone who was in need of encouragement.

Upon checking in, the flight attendants told me there were no front seats. I had requested a front seat so I could have more leg space plus it makes it easier when nursing etc, and I had also requested to be seated next to a lady…………..you can imagine why.

Believe it or not I was seated next to a dignified looking lady from Spain of all places. (Which is also where I am from). She was such an angel of a lady, and we began a conversation right away. I was able to give her an Activated mag and find out more about her and her family. She told me that every time she flies she gets terrible earaches that are quite unbearable for her, especially during the landing. Since we had just been talking about God and how much He wants to be a part of our lives, I offered to pray for her just before we started landing. Her ears had already started hurting, but we prayed together in full faith and then carried on our conversation. As we got off the plane, we exchanged addresses and she then told me that the pain in her ears had completely disappeared and she had felt no pain from then onwards. I felt encouraged that day – seeing two answers to prayer.. One, having met ‘that special person’, and two, the answer to prayer for her ears! I love putting God to the test, because more and more I realize that He never fails to answer in the way that is best for us.

Today I was calling up a few people to invite them to our ‘Activated Club Meeting’. I had a feeling that I should call one particular man and did the same. During our conversation he told me that he had just been thinking of calling me 5 minutes earlier and couldn’t put it off. He had also remembered his commitment to sponsor the education of one student from ‘Starting Point’, a school that we opened that gives free education to children from slum areas. That was an answer to prayer, as we are receiving 10 new students from a nearby slum that all need sponsoring.

The baby is now a month old, and still nameless. What a wonder! Somehow my Leo mind and my husbands Gemini mind don’t seem to come to a conclusion on this one… ok give it a week and we will have it.

Right now we are understaffed by 5 people; Dani, Sunshine, David, Laura, and Phoebe who have all gone up to a hillstation to attend a 3 week training camp. They all left with stars in their eyes and high spirits – they were especially excited to be meeting up with many other young people from all over India and even some from other countries. At this camp they will get training in both the spiritual and vocational aspects of our work. Speaking of training programs, I am doing a similar one which requires that you complete a four month online course first and then you get to attend the 3 week training seminar. This program covers topics such as; leadership, PR, worth ethic, etc. I have found it very helpful so far, except I am a bit behind………due to having a little break at the hospital with the baby and then at home. Well, I hope to finish it in time – keep your fingers crossed for me.

My little ‘man child’ was born on June 4th, Monday, at <st1 hour="15" minute="22" w:st="on">3:22 pm</st1>. I had labor through the day before and I was all excited and packing away until I fell asleep and the contractions stopped. In the evening they picked up again till they were two minutes apart and about 30 or more seconds long, so that was a pretty sure sign that the little guy was on his way out and off we sped to the clinic. Embarrassing was the word when I fell asleep again and the contractions stopped again! – So there I was at <st1 hour="6" minute="30" w:st="on">6:30</st1> in the morning, walking up and down the hallway trying to get ‘the pains’. (this is what contractions are affectionately referred to here – Ok…….so there may be some truth to it.) There were three other women in the beginning stages of labor also trying to bring ‘the pains’ on. – the cute thing is that they got all inspired about my passion to go into labor and all started marching along with me.

So the passion dulled after the doctor had to break the water bag to speed up the labor and I was in the throes of real, heavy, labor kind of stuff. I had to go on a drip too, but lest this sounds like a real horror story let me tell you all the wonderful things about it too.

1) The doctor and Esther (my breathing coach) were both there for my delivery. Had the baby come one day later, that wouldn’t have been possible. An answer to prayer!

2) The labor was considerably shorter than the last – another answer to prayer that was, ahem..very dear to my heart.

3) Vin, Esther, Joy, and Laura all attended the birth – another miracle as here they don’t usually let people into the delivery room, and if they do it’s maybe one person.

4) I had beautiful music playing throughout the labor and was even able to sleep inbetween contractions and hear a joke or two from my companions.

5) I had a beautiful healthy 4.1kg baby, which is the most important miracle!

<o> </o>

Here are some photos. Whaddayall think about the name ‘Alonso’. (someone told me that there is a famous car racer with the same name and it kind of ruined it for me….yes, so I am a little behind the times when it comes to car racers etc.)

We have been working on our set up in the preschoolers’ room, and….voila, I can say with a smile that we have almost completed it. Of course, it will always be a work in progress and we will need to upgrade our materials, equipment etc etc. But some major things have gotten done. For one, someone gave us a new, flat screen, top of the line computer – with speakers, mouse, and everything. This has been such a lifesaver, since now we keep all the learning materials on the computer as well and the children can do a host of things. The teachers are also able to do planning and Child Care research online. We were also able to get some much need play equipment, like some tricycles and a little scooty thingie for their age. They are quite pleased as you can see in the following photo. We have 2 more babies on the way as well as one 10 month old besides these kids in the photo.
And in the second pic you can see Daisy, their intelligent teacher!

I am at the moment getting contractions that are about 20 seconds long and they are 10 minutes apart. It’s definitely still the beginning stage, but something tells me by tonight we are going to have a second addition to the family. Boy or girl? Arg, it’s killing me not knowing! I also realized I hadn’t taken any photos in these last months, so here is one I just took. Yup I’m poppin! Keep us in your prayers!

…till the baby is born! The due date is the 3rd of June, but what makes life even more exciting is that our doctor is going out of town on the 7th. So, should this child decide to show up a day or two late – oops.  There is also a wonderful woman by the name of Esther who had come with me for my last delivery and had helped with the breathing.  It really helped, as she has had many kids before so she can also kind of oversee the whole thing.  She is gone on the 4th. Heh. So, please baby come out on time!!!!  Or early….

Did some jogging on the treadmill today, but don’t feel much different except for a little dizzy. Ha. I guess it’s come to the point where I just have to trust the Lord and see what happens.

Toodles.

Cheers for Munj, the new addition to our team!  A lovely girl, and brilliant with children. Her real name is Mariangela, but the kids and all call her Munj for short.  I was a bit concerned as before when a new teacher would come, the toddlers would break out in all kinds of embarrassing and unpredictable behaviour.  (aka. Picking their noses and depositing the discovered ‘treasures’ on the teacher, peeing wherever there was an open space, telling the teacher how much they didn’t like them, wailing for a number of hours on end, only pausing for breath..etc).  How wonderful that today the only untoward incident was one of them biting the other and that was quickly remedied.  I have to say they have improved in their behaviour after much desperate prayer and many meetings and now things are pretty smooth.  I can hardly believe how intelligent these little guys can be.  Yesterday my two year old was asking me about galaxies and what they are made out of, where you find them etc.  I was like…….umm  some nebulous gases… uhh.. groups of stars…..heh….

Well, I guess you never stop learning as a parent and I’m sure it’ll be a whole new caboodle of lessons when the new baby is born.  By the way….NINE DAYS TO GO for new baby to come!

A couple of us flew to Bombay for some meetings that had to happen. Thank God they let me on the plane at 8 months and I was thankful I had gotten a ‘fit to travel’ document from my doctor. It was funny to see the people at the ticketing counter looking at my belly out of the corner of their eyes, and then all of the sudden they jerked back the boarding passes and started whispering. Oops. Good thing I had the paper….I almost attempted flying without.

Something interesting happened on the way back.  We had prayed in the morning that God would lead us to someone special at the airport, and as the day went along we sort of forgot about the prayer and got ready to go.  Our flight was a fashionable 2 hours late so we decided to stroll along the bookstore that was at the Mumbai airport.  There was a sale on kids’ books, so I bought a little shiner prize for Kaila and some baby books and kept looking around. All the while there was this guy, maybe in his thirties, obviously part of some multinational company, and rather dignified looking, checking out the bookstore as well.  I ventured to give him a tract, (a small paper with a simple message about God’s love).  This paper is called ‘Somebody Loves You’.  I was initially a bit embarrassed to give this guy a tract, after all here I was 8 months pregnant and bulging, totally wiped out , not looking my best, and with a pile of baby books in my arms. Heh.  Well, I’m happy I did….-.I gave him the tract and spoke to him for about 30 seconds, exchanged names,  and bid him farewell. He was very grateful that I had taken the time to say hello and was quite surprised.  I had scribbled my number on the back of the tract just before, but I was kicking myself that I had not gotten his number – why do I forget everything these days.  The whole journey I just couldn’t forget about it and I prayed that somehow the Lord would lead him to us again.  That evening as I arrived home I got an SMS from Sandeep.  Here’s what it said;

‘Hello Sarah, thanks for the wonderful note you gave me at the bookshop at Mumbai airport. I wish you and your group the same happiness and love that you are spreading. In this age and time it is truly an incredible gesture. Warm regards, Sandeep’

I certainly didn’t care now about the flight being 2 hours late and the sweaty wait at the airport. We had been in the right place, at the right time, and had somehow been God’s channel to someone who needed to know that ‘Somebody loved them’. That was a pretty good feeling!

We have been planning a new project that I have wanted to tell you all about.  It’s something dear to my heart, as it has to do with children and also with their education.  In the month of June and July we hope to distribute educational packages to 50 schools in the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.  These packages will be made up of the following:

1)    A set of educational VCD’s. The series is called Treasure Attic and is not only an educational series, but also deals with what is termed here as moral science. For example; health and hygiene, obedience to teachers and parents, sharing, friendship, courtesy, manners. Etc.

2)    A computer set up for each school.  A computer can double up as many things and these days you can get big screens for not too much, so we are looking into this.

3)    A series children’s books by the name of ‘Grandpa Jake’ series.

4)Â Â Â A lively musical program for each school upon distribution of the materials.

These materials will be going to rural schools, and to schools here in Bangalore that are quite needy.  Please keep this project in your prayers, and if you would like to help in someway, do contact us!

Aurevoir!
