Joni: I asked Rowen, my oldest, on her ninth birthday what she wanted to do. She asked “Can we go to a water park Mommy?” What a great idea! I couldn’t have thought of a better one myself since it’s been real hot here. I knew that we couldn’t afford to pay for one for all of us since we’re a lot of people, so the Lord would have to do a miracle. I called a couple of water parks and I spoke with the owner of one who told me that he’d be happy to help, just that he could only help in a couple of weeks seeing that it was Semana Santa, which is a time of vacation here and his water park would be full. So we waited, praying that it would work out and that he wasn’t ‘putting me off.’ They’re so polite here, that they don’t like to say “no” straight out (although sometimes I wish they would ) and you often hear…um…other ways of saying no, although you’re not sure if it’s a no or not…anyway. This turned out to be a definite YES. Bless his heart for his generous giving of free tickets for our whole home to enjoy the water park for the day. We sure had fun! Jesus is so good to us, supplying not only our needs, but our wants as well! And what a sweet man to be so willing to help us. Here are some pictures from that special day.

Yes, we found out a few weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to blog about it yet. Well, not much to blog about regarding that I guess but just the fact that we seem to have the “making baby girls” down pretty well–lol. It’s like I just knew what the doctor was going to say during the sonogram “It’s a girl.” Of course I’m happy, and now that I’ve gotten used to it I’m completely fine but we were hoping for a boy at first. I think it’ll be so cute to have four little girls in a row though. Poor Chad, I think he really wanted a little brother. Although he is blessed to have 4 boys around his same age to live and play with all day! I’m so thankful for that or I think I would feel a little more sad for him. He was sitting next to one of my friends the other day and she asked him how he felt about the new baby coming and he said “I really hope Mommy has a boy.” And she, thinking that he must not have heard the news said “Well, I think it’s going to be another little girl this time.” Chad said “No, for the next baby I mean.” Ha! Well, my kids somtimes tell me their plans for the sibling line up: “Next you can have a boy, then you can have twins–twin girls, then twin boys etc.” “Oh yeah, no sweat, ok ” Now we are in the throes of name choosing.

Vas: In my last post I was mentioning about having more faith and trust in the Lord. I have been taking advantage of any little opportunity to build my faith by looking over all that the Lord has done which is a lot. To list a few things, number one it’s miracle that we found our present house and the way we found it and the fact that it is big enough to fill our needs more affordable and enjoyable to live in. Also the Lord miraculously opened the doors right away to getting a 4 month gig at a night club that we weren’t actually ready for and this not only brought in the finances we needed for our budget and to basically set up our home but also helped us to gain some much needed experience with our band in the way of teaching us more about music and playing live, as well as controlling the crowd and holding their interest. Progress would have been much slower if we would have had to raise the funds for our budget any other way.

Something else the lord did was provide a bunch of furniture for our house which is honestly a monumental job and we just met someone who will donate everything else we are missing to completely furnish the rest of the house. One little thing that was a real faith builder for me was when I was on a trip just a week ago we had had the opportunity to get some personal needs and I really wanted to get some Persian style rugs as the floor of our little cabin where our family stays has some stains that would be easily covered by a nice rug. I found these rugs are not cheap and even the bad quality ones are not that cheap so I wasn’t able to get them and on the way back from our trip as I was driving I was thinking about the fact that I wasn’t able to get these rugs and almost complaining to the lord saying why can’t you just give us the money we need to get everything we need and the lord said to me clearly why don’t you ask me to give you the rug and that woke me up to the reality that I had not asked the lord to supply a rug for our room and actually I had not been faithful to use prayer to supply specific needs. So I said a heartfelt prayer asking the lord for the perfect size rug. The truth is I didn’t know what size I need but it turned out I need the larger kind of Persian style rug and I was already scared by the prices of the smaller ones. So anyway 3 days later someone came to visit and had said a friend of theirs was moving houses and gave them two Persian rugs and they didn’t need them so they gave them to us and one was the perfect color and size for our cabin I couldn’t of picked it better myself and the other one we put in the main living room and it also was the perfect size and color to match our living room furniture. So that was something that was quite faith building for me and I hope that I can continue to accomplish thing that way through prayer and depending on the Lord

Vas: These days I have been learning a bit about faith and I remember that before we opened this home the Lord told me I would need more faith and to concentrate on building my faith by reading more about the miracle working power of God as well as consciously relating the general word I read to my everyday life and letting it build my faith. I felt I could have done better before hand and although I did do a good bit of the above I have found myself lacking in faith and having a hard time casting my burden on the Lord. I usually like to do a job and finish it than relax, because it’s hard for me to enjoy myself when I am in the middle of something, and if I try to rest, a lot of times I’ll end up just thinking about the job that needs to be done and everything that is lacking, this is what has been happing to me lately. When I stop to take time with the Lord I end up getting flooded by thoughts and worries. I want everything to be solved before I can enjoy life but what the Lord is trying to teach me is to trust him and not let the fact that there is so much yet to be done with pioneering our home cause me anxiety and to enjoy the journey not just the destination. To do this I need to trust Him that he will do the miracles as I do my part and not let worrying about things take my energy when I need it to do what I can.

Joni: Vas and I went out the other day to visit some factories and companies that are right in our area that have building materials, wood etc. The house we just moved into has been so nice and weÂ’’ve just been happier and happier with it as the days go by but it still needs some fixing up. The wood floor in the living room is completely destroyed and needs to be replaced. Also, our tennis/basketball court needs a new floor and then there are other less major repairs to do. We know that the Lord will help us and supply all these things in His time. Anyway, back to Vas and I going out.

We went out with a mission to ask these different places that have these things, if they would be able to donate what we need after explaining to them the missionary work that we do. It was very encouraging because the first lumber yard we went to, the owner said that he would help us with some of the wood that we need for the floor! Wonderful! So thatÂ’s a start, and there are some other people that we met that day that may help us also, we just have to wait and pray. Many times that is part of the life of faith, having patience and persevering, not expecting immediate results all the time but being willing to patiently work until you see results. Thank you for your prayers. If you have anything you would like us to pray for, send us your request and weÂ’’d be happy to keep you in our prayers.

Joni: We just started a kids club for the children 5-12 years from all the Family homes here. So exciting!! I’ve been wanting to do this for so long and it’s finally become a reality. We have a ways to go in organization but we figure it’s better to start with something than not to start at all. Really I should give a lot of credit to John in our home who had a vision to go for it. So right now, because of popular demand, we have a soccer class once a week for the boys and a ballet class once a week for the girls. We accompany that with a special snack and an art project that they all enjoy. Our kids club has only been in operation for 3 weeks now but the kids have really enjoyed it so far. We want to make trips together to museums, water parks, the zoo, factories that make cool things and just have a fun way that they can get together with their friends to enjoy and learn.

Vas: Well our first bible study was underway and now we’ve had two so far so; that’s so inspiring to have started. To me what’s most inspiring is finding people that are truly hungry for spiritual principles because it seems so many don’t even give it the time of day. I realize that’s it’s not natural to be so concerned with the feeding of our souls and it’s something that I have learned that if I am unfaithful with keeping my soul well fed than I pay for it in the way of basically being a pain to those around me and not having the strength to even be a good missionary. Like the quote that says “we can’t do the Masters work without the Masters power.”

It’s hard for me to stop sometimes and take that time with the Lord and I of course have the voice of the devil right there ready to try and convince me that’s it’s boring so I really admire those like Ceasar and Rosa. These two dear people are part of this blooming bible study and have a real hunger to learn about the things of the spirit. Lord helping us, John and I who are giving this bible study can do our best to make things interesting and power packed.

Today we studied about “Daring to be different” and challenged our students to be different from the majority by following in Jesus’ footsteps of loving your neighbor as yourself. Thisais a bit of a heavy topic and if not understood well could come across a bit contradictory. For examples when it says in the Bible “He that saves his life shall lose it, but if you lose your life for Jesus’ sake you shall save it.”This goes completely against our natural thought patterns but it is so true and does not contradict itself.

I am going to include a song that you all can download that I wrote on this subject: True test

Thankfully we’ve all been very healthy for the last 9 months or so that we’ve been here but maybe this is flu season. This sickness that just seems to keep coming back to some of us sure has kept us on our prayer bones. Please pray for us when you have a chance that we can completely get over this flu. Thank God for His promise that “all things work together for good to them that love Him.” Rom. 8:28. It’s been helping me to learn to praise more for my blessings and also to depend on Jesus more to do the work. Thank you for your prayers!

Joni: I’ve been going through one of those times where I feel disheartened about myself and the way I am. I’ve never felt so much that I haven’t really done anything very well. I know that sounds very negative but that’s the way I’ve felt recently. I think some of the intensity of the feelings also comes from being pregnant, a time when everything seems so “big.” It seems I do a little bit of a lot of things, but sometimes I wonder how well or completely I’m doing any of them and I feel I have not much to show for them. Of course I’m always encouraged as I know that raising children is a big job in itself and one that is worth every bit of effort, but these past few weeks I’ve even gotten discouraged about that, thinking that I don’t even do that very well. Ok, so I know the enemy of our souls likes to discourage us more than anything, and I’m sure that’s what’s happening, but sometimes it’s hard to fight when it all looks so “true.” But fight I must and like I said in my post about this sickness we’ve been having, I’m learning how to use a praiseful attitude to defeat negative feelings that don’t do us any good and in fact make us less likely to succeed or to change those things that need to be changed. All around, praise and positive thinking make our lives better. So this is what I see as the positive aspect of my negative feelings about myself—I’m learning how to praise and be positive, to make it a habit that needless to say will be very useful to me throughout my life and the difficulties that it brings. Honestly though, I have had a wonderful life and have so much to be thankful for–my husband and 5 beautiful healthy children among some of the most wonderful things!
